The Large Dark Olives generally hatch out in spring March – April. It has a darker body than the later hatching Olives. The most common and abundant of all the olive species. The nymph is an agile darter, lives among the vegetation of weedy rivers with a good flow, and swims to the surface in open water to hatch.
